POLICE officers are receiving specialist training to educate children about the dangers and consequences of carrying knives and firearms.

Wiltshire Police said children as young as 10 years old are carrying knives for protection or to increase their credibility - and following the spate of knife killings in the UK - they are targeting children directly.

Following the training, officers will be visiting schools and community groups in the county to speak to young people about the impact knife crime has on victims and their families.

Police have linked up with the Swindon Youth Offending Team on the initiative.

perhaps they should educate the parents on knowing where there children are and what they are doing at the same time!!!

Teaching children the rights and wrongs about carrying weapons is an excellent idea, but ultimately will fall on deaf ears.

The ones that will listen probably wouldn't carry knifes in the first place, the ones that will, either wont be at school due to truanting or are beyond help already.

Wiltshire wench has hit the nail on the head. The parents need to be tackled and forced to give a good example to their children. Children aren't born evil, they are made evil by the people around them and the experinces they have, i.e. bad parenting!

A redical suggestion to solve the problem; Having children is a privalige, not a right. Every potential parent should have to have lisence before being allowed to breed. The ones that look like they are going to have bad off spring are denied the right, resulting in less children being brought up by thugs, turning ino thugs them selfs...

<snip totally stupid rubbish about licensing to have kids>

To call everyone who carries a kife a 'thug' is misleading.

Is it so unbelievable that knifes really are being carried for self defense? Try calling a copper when someone comes at you with a weapon. You'll have a bloody long wait for help.

Do you really think that kids are just going to stand there and be stabbed? Of course they aren't. They are going to carry a weapon to defend themselves with.

Disgusted, I'm not calling everyone that carries a knife a thug, I'm reffering to the wider issue in society of children being brought up by parents who don't give a **** about them, resulting in them turning into the horrible creatures we read about everyday. Not just with knifes, but fighting in the park, taking drugs and shop lifting etc

I also find it extremely disapointing and worrying that you condone the use of knifes and appear to be encouraging youths to carry them! Fighting violence with more violence isn't going to solve the problem, it is just going to make it worse. The whole point of this exercise and others is to remove the knifes completely, so no one would need them for defence, attack or anything else.

I'm not condoning anything. I'm trying to understand the problem which is a lot more than those who are paid to sort it out are doing. Nothing will be solved by threatening to bang people up for 5 years for carrying a knife. You can make it 20 or 30 years it still won't solve the problem. In any event there are not nor will there ever be enough prison spaces to put people in nor would the taxpayer be prepared to pay the cost of keeping inmates for that length of time.

MPs don't have a clue. They are brought up in public schools then go straight on to Parliament without any idea whatsoever of what's going on in the real world. They sit in the bar drinking gin and tonics subsidised by public money before going on to 14 course meals (hiya Fatso Broon) and patronising kids living on council estates in the real world about carrying knives. They then get chauffeured home to their luxury second homes where if anyone so much as farts going past armed police will appear for them out of the woodwork in seconds. The same police who take 2 weeks to turn up when a member of the public calls them to report this weeks burglary(If they turn up at all.)

Instead of living in luxury second homes as remote from society as their public schools are, maybe if these MPs were prised off their lazy fat arses and forced to take a flat in Brixton or Hackney as their second home and actually lived amongst the people they preach to they would see that in many cases kids HAVE to carry weapons for self defence. It's no use whatsoever telling them they will get banged up for 5 years for carrying a knife. They might well be dead in minutes if they don't!

In many cases these are not ‘thugs’ setting out to attack, they are kids being FORCED to defend themselves. A job that the authorities should be doing but who gave up doing so long ago.

I totally blame Thatcher for triggering this mass breakdown of society and the Bliars for not stepping in as a Socialist government to stop the rot going any further. Cherie Bliar claims she can't let her children play out in the street these days. Imagine that, her kids have armed guards 24/7 and they can't play out. Maybe their kids should have knives to protect themselves with like the rest of the kids have been forced to.

The damage is done and there is no going back. I give it 5 years and we might well see the problem deteriorate to the point where soldiers are called in to patrol UK streets.

There is just one slim chance of a party actually having the guts to do something about this mess. I'll be voting BNP next time around.

I could not have put it better myself Disgusted. If i did,nt know better i would say that you been taking lessons from Heather. Except in this case i would agree with you.
Most kids just want to feel safe in the streets without fear of being attacked. The way society is now i can quite understand why some kids arm themselfs with knifes. As you quite rightly say putting people inside for 5 years for carrying a Knife is hardly going to solve the problem and quite honestly i am not entirely sure how to go about solving the problem now as society has detiorated beyond repair. Maybe we are getting closer to yanki land than we think and the day fast aproaching when we will all beed to be able to arm ourselfs with guns ect.

Absolutely but for some strange reason a charged up capacitor is called a firearm these days with all the aggro and penalties that entails.
