A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with robbery after a woman had her handbag stolen in the early hours of Wednesday.
Officers were called to the Bradley Road area of Trowbridge at just after 2am following reports of a woman in distress. The 33-year-old woman had been walking home when she was allegedly approached by a man who stole her bag and made off.
Four people were subsequently arrested two 20-year-old men, an 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl. All of them were taken into custody at Melksham police station and were interviewed by detectives.
Officers later charged one of the men with robbery and released the other three without charge. The 20-year-old man was due to appear before magistrates in Chippenham yesterday morning.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Bradley Road area between 1.45am and 2.15am on Wednesday to come forward with relevant information. Call Detective Sergeant Mark Kent on 0845 408 7000.
