Police hail fall in crime

CRIME fell in Wiltshire by one per cent over the past year, according to new figures released by the Home Office yesterday.

There were 44,587 crimes recorded in the county from April 2007 to March 2008, down from 45,098 over the same period the previous year.

Cases of violence against the person fell by six per cent, equating to 566 fewer victims, while robbery fell by the same amount, equating to 30 fewer victims. In the British Crime Survey, seven per cent of people had a high level of worry about being the victim of violent crime, compared to a national average of eight per cent.

There were 140 offences involving a knife or sharp implement used to threaten a person 52 of these cases were robbery. Meanwhile burglaries fell by four per cent, meaning 183 fewer were committed.

Assistant Chief Constable Julie Clayton said: "These figures show that in key areas such as violence against the person and robbery, we are seeing some impressive reductions when compared to forces elsewhere in the country, and we are already building on this record in the first few months of this year."

Crime down my arse. They have just shut all the plod shops down so you can't report anything anymore. Crime is far worse than it ever was.

Anyone who believes this b o l l o c k s must think that inflation is really only 3.8% as well.

Fiddled figures all of it.

So which 'plod shops' as you put it are closed then. Last I heard, it was only some enquiry offices that were still closed.

Anyway, there is still the phone or internet to use.

Yes as I found out when I tried to go to Westbury station to report a theft and found teh doors locked. I spoke to a recording on the telephone outside which directed me to a web page and then was given a number. End of story. That aint plodding. It is taking the p1ss!

Can you imagine a young lady reporting that she's being raped and being told to f u c k off and go to a web page?

Well, clearly that would warrant the use of 999 (Doh!!)

It could possibly but not always by any means. Many rape victims used to go to plod shops. Suppose the rape took place outside one of these closed plod shops?

Its the public that need to 'feel' like theres a fall in crime or that the police respond when required by the public for there to be any successes.

When the people hail the police a success thats when the police should hail any successes at all, until then it's just figure and stat spewing nothingness.

Try phoning the police to report anything that does not affect these measures they publicise, you get nothing, been there, done it, 40 minutes waiting before hanging up.

Thats my measure of their success in this household, plot that on your graphs as 100% failure.

None of the Police Stations have closed, some of their enquiry offices have. Just because when someone goes to the station and gets no response and the doors are closed it doesn't mean there isn't an Officer on duty, they actually have very little time to spend 'sitting' around in the Office any more (contrary to some peoples belief)it's a shame that some people have had a bad experience of trying to contact Police and it has stuck with them, figures or no figures the Police Officers in Wiltshire do their best to deal with every incident reported.

The lights are on but no-ones home. Thats comforting.

I'm sure they are doing their best with what they have resourcewise and this is not an opinion on any individual operating unit but on the 'service' as a whole.

Somethings stuck alright, its us on the end of a phone trying to report incidents that are not 999 in importance and therefore not measurable?

I'd just like to add, 2 other neighbours were reporting the same 'incident' I'm refering to and they both had the same issue of bad service with the message "you are in a queue please wait" being played until they hung up out of frustration.

We dealt with it ourselves....

So its not just me...
It's not just a one off. Do not infer that.

Now come on chaps. Lets be fair there just is.nt the money to keep plod shops open and resourse them properly. There are far more important things to spend Local authority money on. Like Huge Quadrupal golden hand shakes to councill executives. Anyway if your really desperate to find a plod quickly just drive down the street with now tax disc showing or ride your bycycle on the pavement some major crime like that and you will soon find a plod. So lets be fair and join in with plod and hail their success.
