CRIME fell in Wiltshire by one per cent over the past year, according to new figures released by the Home Office yesterday.
There were 44,587 crimes recorded in the county from April 2007 to March 2008, down from 45,098 over the same period the previous year.
Cases of violence against the person fell by six per cent, equating to 566 fewer victims, while robbery fell by the same amount, equating to 30 fewer victims. In the British Crime Survey, seven per cent of people had a high level of worry about being the victim of violent crime, compared to a national average of eight per cent.
There were 140 offences involving a knife or sharp implement used to threaten a person 52 of these cases were robbery. Meanwhile burglaries fell by four per cent, meaning 183 fewer were committed.
Assistant Chief Constable Julie Clayton said: "These figures show that in key areas such as violence against the person and robbery, we are seeing some impressive reductions when compared to forces elsewhere in the country, and we are already building on this record in the first few months of this year."

So which 'plod shops' as you put it are closed then. Last I heard, it was only some enquiry offices that were still closed. Anyway, there is still the phone or internet to use.

Can you imagine a young lady reporting that she's being raped and being told to f u c k off and go to a web page?

None of the Police Stations have closed, some of their enquiry offices have. Just because when someone goes to the station and gets no response and the doors are closed it doesn't mean there isn't an Officer on duty, they actually have very little time to spend 'sitting' around in the Office any more (contrary to some peoples belief)it's a shame that some people have had a bad experience of trying to contact Police and it has stuck with them, figures or no figures the Police Officers in Wiltshire do their best to deal with every incident reported.

Crime down my arse. They have just shut all the plod shops down so you can't report anything anymore. Crime is far worse than it ever was.
Anyone who believes this b o l l o c k s must think that inflation is really only 3.8% as well.
Fiddled figures all of it.
