Parking fines hit 1,000 mark

MORE than 1,000 parking tickets have been handed out in west Wiltshire since the new rules on parking enforcement were introduced.

West Wiltshire District Council took over the enforcement of on-street parking regulations from the police on June 16.

The Wiltshire Times handed over a 473-signature petition for fairer parking charges for workers last week.

Residents can apply for a £150 permit to park in their nearest public car park but workers are face a £450 bill for a similar one.

The district council spokesman said the council was looking at introducing a three-month season ticket for £112.50 to make parking more affordable.

In the past month 704 tickets have been handed out in Trowbridge, 297 in Bradford on Avon, 154 in Melksham, 117 in Warminster and 98 in Westbury.

Here we go, a multi tiered car parking fee system so complex and difficult to administer and put in place its destined to failure.
So its gone from an initiative to curtail bad parking to another tax revenue flow.

The fact that 1000 people have been handed parking fines in a little over 1 month just goes to show how bad the situation was in West Wilts prior to decriminalised parking enforcement. Don't moan about getting a ticket when the answer is simple - don't park illegally. The inconsiderate drivers of west wilts have been getting away with for far to long and now they have actually think before they park, they don't like it.

A local business owner in Warminster has had 3 tickets in one week you think he would learn, got away with it so long now think he is immune.
