Postal sorting offices to move
STAFF at the postal sorting office in Corsham will soon join their colleagues in Chippenham when the two facilities merge into a new centre later this year.
The Corsham office in Stokes Road will close within the next few months but there will be no redundancies.
A spokesperson for Post Office Ltd said the move would mean better working conditions for staff.
However, it does not mean people would lose the service in Corsham altogether as arrangements are being made to provide a smaller local facility for parcel deliveries.
The merger will also mean the 106 staff at Chippenham sorting office will move from their current building in Station Hill.
The two combined services will be relocated to The Wessex Business Centre in Bumpers Farm in the autumn.
A Post Office spokesman said: "We have 106 staff at Chippenham and 20 at Corsham and they will be moving in, in stages.
"Chippenham will probably be moving in towards the end of September or October and then Corsham will relocate after this.
"That could change though, but that is what we are aiming to do.
"Both the existing offices don't have enough space for the towns, which have grown in population in the last few years.
"The new building will provide more space and better working conditions for the staff.
"For instance, Chippenham is currently on two floors which is not very efficient for carrying post up and down stairs."
He added: "People won't have to travel to pick up their parcels as we will make local arrangements in Corsham nearer the time.
"We will sort something out, although it hasn't been finalised from a local angle yet."
