Helping our heroes

RAISING money for injured soldiers has been a priority for children at a Warminster school.

Children at New Close Primary School, which takes in children of military personnel based in Warminster, have been taking part in fundraising activities for the Help for Heroes charity.

The charity is set up to support those at the 66-bed Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court, close to Epsom.

Parents gave money when attending three performances of the Mini Beast Madness production, while a raffle, non-uniform and bring your teddy bear to school day have raised additional funds.

Headteacher Karin Ancell said: "Many of our families are serving in the armed forces. Supporting this charity is one of our many ways of showing that we both appreciate them and support them."

*Warminster health and fitness club Busy Bodies is also raising money for the Help the Heroes cause, with a team of 10 challenging the public to take part in a rowing challenge.

This will be held at the Three Horseshoes Mall on August 23.

Well done kids; What is a national disgrace is that they should have to raise money for this.

I whole heartly agree with Walter, The kids did billantly, but the Goverment should be putting there hands in the goverment pirse and making sure the troops have what needed.
The mayor of Warminster along with the people of the town and surrounding villages have so far sent 2700 shoe boxes to troops in Afghan
with esential stuff
a good effort

What a waste of the children's time. They could have been studying instead of raising money for men and women who knew full well the dangers they would face in conflict.

Neglect of this magnitude is unforgivable.
It is heart breaking to know that the injured men and women of our forces need charity.
What can we do?
We pay our taxes and hope the MP's and government do what is best for the land with them, but they do not.
They waste our money on minority causes and causes abroad when the deserving ones close to our hearts and homes like this are missed.

The list is endless of non-worthy causes getting our taxes.

We know the Queen not so long back brought this into the news n the WT, but stifled to local level media by this government and its cronies it did not stand a chance to be a national issue.

If its not London they dont care.

Vote them out.
Vote in someone who puts Britain first and foremost.
That narrows it down.

Necker, you calling for the BNP?
Posted by: Necker, Trowbridge on 7:22pm Fri 25 Jul 08
I'm all for a british government thats puts Britain and her interests first and foremost.
Do we have one at present?

Every other government of note in the world puts their people first (that includes their armed forces).

Don't put me in a box and yell BNP, thats assumption and some other agenda of yours my friend.

Vote for someone that represents us, our villages, towns and cities, our homeland, Britain.

Is that too much to aspire to?

This government has failed us all on so many levels its obscene.

i don't think the soilders murder children and their mothers deliberately I have seen Men come back from Afghan and Irag broken men because of what they have witness out there
and when some enlisted wars in Afghan and Irag had not taken place.
Unless you have been involved you cann't imagine what the Men go through I suppose they could who come out but then who would protected us.
If we go to see the Lord Mayor show the opening of parliment or Rememberance day parade. sitting targets for terrorist
I do not belive in Wars and wish the conflict could be resloved another way but untill then we must try and make life for the Men in these places a bit more comfortble and be grateful that they are trying to protect us all.
I know these comments will provoke people to have a go at me but so be it.

There are heroes on both sides then...
It must take real heroes to murder and kill mothers and children within their own country.

I agree the world would be a far better place if we all lived in perfect harmony.
Sadly this world doesn't have that luxury and never has throughout all history and never will.

The injured soldiers in this story and throughout time have given something for this country and its people many of us never could imagine and some of us find to frightening to comprehend.
Heroes in my book.

I'm all for supporting the soldiers and giving them fair pay etc, but I don't think they deserve a free university education.

I had to pay through my *** to go to univeristy. 6 years in any job shouldn't entitle you to a free degree, unless it is for every job... or just back to the good old days of free education.

I have to agree with Trowbo If we wanted to retrain and go to University we would have to pay.
Just give them a good wage good accomadation and the basic's when in Afghan and Irag.

Just how are these mercenaries 'heros'? They are not defending the UK in any way shape or form. They attack women and kids from a nice safe distance with star wars type weapons designed to maximise Human casualties. The brave Iraqi and Afghan resistance fighters are the real heros. Most don't even have boots on their feet but will continue to fight back until they have evicted the illegal invaders. Bloody good luck to them.

Disgusted; you narrow minded ****. Do you think those brave Iraqi and Afghan fighters would thank you for your comments? No, they'd suit you and your family up in orange jumpsuits and cut your heads off with a rusty knife without a second thought.
Our soldiers deserve something for their hard efforts. Perhaps a free punch in Disgusted of's face would be a grateful gift for each and every one of them.

i want to say well done to everybody who has helped raise money for such a good cause. be proud of yourselfs.
and as for our men sitting from afar with starwars type weapons murding children and mums !! you must live in a bubble if you think this is true.
our men are doing a good and extremely dangerous job out there. children are starting to go back to school and that includes girls which not so long ago was unheard of.and please tell me if they are sitting so far away how comes we continue to lose lives to landmines. yes these men know of the dangers and they do it because they believe they fight for a better future for all afghan and english alike.
