A MAJOR employer in west Wiltshire has made 14 people redundant blaming the weak economy.

G Plan Upholstery in Hampton Park West, Melksham, has announced 14 redundancies from various departments.

Chief executive Ian Oliver said: "It is due to a combination of increased factory efficiency and a downturn in orders. It's due to the weak economy and a weak outlook - but it's a defensive move rather than a panic one."

He said the company had no plans to makre any further redundancies.

Bad news...

I would not be suprised to hear of some MAJOR job losses soon from some major employer locally.

This redundancy spate is going to gather pace and should worry us all.

As things (the economy) get worse this government will consolidate.
It will let the whole country go to pot while protecting the cities and it's powerbases.

You will start hearing of mass investment in cities and central government success stories not inkeeping with the reality of it all while all around these concrete immigration pockets of votes countryfolk suffer.

We are starting to see glimpses now.

I have to agree with Necker, the rural areas always get the worst deal when the economy is down.

Life goes on. Since 1950 Melksham has lost two processing dairies, a feather works, sawmill, lemonade factory, foundry and engineering works, and most of the Avon jobs. But the town has grown and the pubs are full.
