POLICE in Melksham are looking for people interested in becoming local neighbourhood watch co-ordinators.
PC Kevin Harmsworth said neighbourhood watch schemes had been in decline in recent years in the town.
However, he said information from residents plays an important part in intelligence gathering for Wiltshire Police.
He said: "I would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in becoming a scheme co-ordinator.
"The essence of this initiative is to encourage people to think 'crime prevention' in their own neighbourhoods and to take positive steps to prevent themselves and their neighbours becoming victims of crime."
Depending on the response from residents, Melksham town neighbourhood policing team will organise a meeting to explain the process in more detail.
They can be contacted by calling 0845 408 7000, extension 728817 or by emailing melkshamtowncentrenpt@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk
