Drowning on Dry Land

5:17pm Wednesday 27th August 2008

Thursday, September 4 until Saturday, September 27, Salisbury Playhouse.

Salisbury Playhouse kicks off its Autumn 08 Season with Alan Ayckbourn's comedy Drowning on Dry Land, which is running from Thursday.

Ayckbourn's contemporary satire, directed by Sarah Esdaile, pokes fun at the spell of celebrity and the devastating effect it can have as it comes and goes.

Charlie is an ordinary man who isn't particularly talented at anything but being famous. Charlie and his wife are good at being the celebrity couple until shy Marsha, a children's entertainer with an alter-ego, gets spellbound.

Alan Ayckbourn is one of Britain's most popular and prolific playwrights, having written more than 70 award winning plays, including Absurd Person Singular (recently revived in the West End), Absent Friends and House and Garden (both seen at the Playhouse in recent years).

Stuart Laing (Rob Minter in BBC TV's EastEnders) plays Charlie. The cast includes Polly Maberly (The Royal and Harley Street) and Hannah Watkins (Be My Baby, Salisbury Playhouse).

Other cast members include Laurence Kennedy, Patrick Driver, Leanne Best and Giles Fagan.

Box office (01722) 320117.
