HISTORIC artefacts are desperately wanted for this year's Finds Day in Bradford on Avon.

Last year the event held by Bradford on Avon Museum attracted crowds from across Wiltshire.

Museum trustee Tracey Williams said: "Last year, we were absolutely amazed by the sheer quantity and variety of archaeological finds brought into the event, which was the most successful finds day ever held in Wiltshire."

Among the items brought in were were a spear of East African origin, a 17th century spoon, a Roman bracelet, a cannonball, and a 5th century Saxon bead discovered in the Swindon area.

This year's event is on September 13 from 10am to 4pm in the library foyer.

Entry is free.

*Wiltshire county archaeologist Roy Canham will be discussing local discoveries and ancient sites in the county at the town library at 8pm on Tuesday September 16. Tickets cost £3.

Our nipper had a couple of bargains he could take along. He bought 'em quite cheap, considering - a genuine Roman bus-ticket, and one of Richard the Lionheart's cricket-bats.

He's just told me I made him look ridiculous when I got it all wrong. It were a Roman cricket-bat and one of Richard the Lionheart's bus-tickets. Sorry, our nipper.
