Hospital project blocked

THE former mayor of Bradford on Avon has reacted angrily to the news that plans to redevelop the former hospital have been recommended for refusal.

Bath-based Future Heritage has applied for planning permission to redevelop the five-and-a-half acre site for a nursing home with up to 60 beds, units for assisted living and 14 homes.

Town councillor Vicky Landell Mills said that the plans, which are due to go before West Wiltshire District Council's planning committee on September 11, have been recommended for refusal.

She said: "When we saw that it has been recommended for refusal we couldn't believe it."

The application is also for three private homes in the Grade II listed Berryfield House, and two terraces of three homes, four homes in a walled garden and another one by a cedar tree elsewhere in the grounds.

Concerns have been raised by officers that the housing would be detrimental to the architectural look of the listed building.

Hopefully, the councillors on the WWDC planning committee will decide that the community need for the proposed facilities far outweighs the need to preserve the architectural integrity of this Grade II listed building ....

I feel the architectural integrity of Semington bypass roundabout has been thoroughly compromised - what did the "officers" do? - sweet FA.

These WWDC planning berks seem to see it as their mission in life to be obstructive and officious towards the people who pay their wages.

I hope the councilors on the planning committee see sense and approve the proposal.

Hoards of highly paid officials keeping all things in these areas in a state of flux.
It keeps them in jobs.

It's time they flux'd off, get people in that will do what is right for Bradford not people who always hang it out for more money like these bozos.

I bet these decision makers do not even live within 50 miles of Bradford-on-Avon.

The former Mayor up in arms? What about the current Mayor?
Don't rock the boat mate.

I see that the abusive posts made over the weekend have now been deleted.

The abuse aimed at me was based on an assumption that the community would prefer to see the building used again as a hospital. But, this is just not an option. The planning committee must determine the planning application based on the proposal in the planning application, not on what anyone happens to want.

In any event, the Primary Care Trust closed this hospital some time ago and has announced plans that clearly do not include any new hospital in Bradford on Avon.

Hurling abuse will not change the facts.

Bradford on Avon town council speaks for the local community when it says that it supports this proposal to convert the building and use the grounds to develop a nursing home.

Afterall, a nursing home is at least a form of healthcare - one that is increasingly needed everywhere.

Just for clarity:

Bradford-on-Avon Town Council has responded formally to the consultation by saying that it has "No Objections " to this proposal.
