Star Wars fans flock to store

4:05pm Monday 6th October 2008

UP to 1,000 people paid a visit to a comic shop's Star Wars and Sci-Fi event at the weekend.

The event was organised by Auttomatic Comics in Corsham and held in conjunction with the town's library, where author David Johnson met with fans to discuss his sci-fi saga Crystal Quest.

Matt Booker, owner of the Pickwick Road store, said: "There were around 120 to 130 people there in costume and it was fantastic to see the kids turn up in their homemade Jedi outfits with homemade light sabers.

"I gave out free comics to kids that came in costume and we had a few adults who were dressed up as well."

Mr Booker also sold Star Wars figurines and other toys on the day and made around £200 which he will now donate to the Alzheimer's Society, as both his paternal and maternal grandmothers suffered from the disease.

The youngest visitor at the event was Mr Booker's daughter Lilly, who is six months old, and came dressed as a bat.

Mr Booker will be holding a similar day on October 25 from 10am to 4pm with a Dr Who theme and people are invited to turn up in fancy dress. This event will be in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
