Get involved in Melksham town’s future

Graham Ellis, president of the Melksham Chamber
Melksham Chamber of Commerce has called on business leaders to have their say on the future development of the town.
Several major initiatives are in the pipeline for Melksham, including the Community Campus scheme, the Wilts & Berks Canal extension and the proposed link road from Bowerhill, which could have a major impact on the long-term development of the town. Now the Melksham Chamber is refocusing its efforts on promoting the views of businesses in the town.
Graham Ellis, president of the Melksham Chamber, said: “We’ll be providing a renewed local pride and service for the Melksham area – for those members who are proud to be Melksham-based and want to be a business that supports the community, as well as one that helps make inputs to direct the community for its future.
“These are really exciting times – we’re taking advantage of the technology, the pride in Melksham and the new respect for localism to do really useful things for our businesses and thus for our community.”
The chamber is represented in the shadow community board behind the Melksham Campus proposals, and has worked closely with Melksham town and parish councils to influence the plans for the new leisure centre and swimming pool in the town.
Mr Ellis said: “Working quietly behind the scenes, the chamber has achieved a great deal for its members and for the wider town over the years, and it’s now set out its strategy for doing so into the future.”
The chamber is now appealing for new members to join, following a meeting last Wednesday when a new membership structure was produced.
