Police hunt driver of Christmas Day crash
1:11pm Friday 11th January 2013 in News
Rebaz Hussain
Wiltshire Police are searching for the driver of the car which crashed in Melksham on Christmas Day, killing one man.
Rebaz Hussain, who is 27 and originally from Iraq, was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with abdominal injuries and later discharged.
Sgt Barrie Card of the Wiltshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT) said: “Following our initial enquiries we are now in a position to interview Mr Hussain as the driver of the vehicle.
“We are concerned that we have not been able to make contact with Mr Hussain following his discharge from the RUH. As a result we are now extremely keen to locate him.
“He is known to have lived at a number of addresses in Chippenham and Melksham over the past couple of years and to have worked at a fast food outlet in Melksham as well as hand car washes in both towns.
“We have visited all the known addresses and locations but friends and colleagues say he has not been seen since Christmas Day.
“We are now appealing for anyone who knows of his whereabouts, or who may be in contact with him, to get in touch with us.
“We would also appeal to Mr Hussain to make contact with us at the earliest opportunity.
“Anyone who saw the blue Audi A6, registration number FV02 UGU, and the five occupants in Chippenham town centre at around 3am on Christmas Day, or who then saw the car travelling from Chippenham to Melksham, is also asked to make contact.”
The car collided with the wall outside Cooper Tires at the junction of Old Broughton Road and Bath Road in Melksham at 3.33am.
He and his four passengers were taken by ambulance to the RUH. Shortly after arrival, one of the passengers, Nerijus Partikas, died from his injuries.
Another passenger, a 23-year-old man, was transferred from the RUH to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with internal injuries. His condition is described as stable in the high dependency unit.
The other two passengers were treated at the RUH and discharged on Boxing Day.
A post mortem examination has taken place and an inquest was formally opened and adjourned by the Avon and Somerset Coroner.
Mr Partikas was originally from Lithuania where his family still live.
Sgt Card said: “A Wiltshire Police family liaison officer is in regular touch with the Lithuanian Embassy in London to ensure that the victim’s family are fully supported as they come to terms with their tragic loss.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Wiltshire Police on 101 and ask for the Serious Collision Investigation Team. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers UK anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I won't go into the PC argument - sufficient to say that being ENGLISH and merely being the holder of a UK passport are enormously different. I see the passenger he killed was a Lithuanian - why on earth would he end up (literally) living in Melksham?
Or the Aussies, the South Africans, the Kiwis, the Kenyans, the Americans or Canadians? The French shouldn't be there, along with the Italians, Turks, Germans, Greeks and Spanish?
After all - there are ENGLISH people living in those countries - why do you believe people from those countries shouldn't come here?
Unless of course you mean those who come here only to scam the benefit system and the general population. In which case - say so. (Most of the nation would agree with you. INCLUDING the hard-working, tax-paying immigrants.)
But if you believe England is only for the English - do you mean the 3rd-generation non-workers who are allowed to bleed the country dry with their benefit entitlements for the half a dozen kids, 3 staffies and a fully supported brand new 3-bed house that they'll trash within months?
Yes - there are a shedload of "English" I'd like to "trade-in" for some immigrants.

odd 'arry, I bet if you traced your family history you will come to someone who wasn't English. Just how many people in this country do you think are pure English?

UN agreements are that these should seek asylm in the first safe country to which they come. UK is geographically one of the LAST countries they would reach, having crossed turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy or Autria, Germany, France ......to reach UK where the handouts are biggest.

I personally don't know of any foreign national who has come here purely to scam the benefit system. The Sun and the Daily Mail tell me there are many and there probably are. If so, then surely that is the fault of the system itself, not the person taking advantage of it.
Like the foreign nationals who steal purses/bags from the elderly. The foreign nationals who carry out the gold jewellery scams. The foreign nationals who carry out insurance scams.
They aren't the victims - those they scam are - it doesn't matter if it's a person or a system they steal from.
(They don't live on the streets, either. They're housed and supported within days of arrival.)
They don't steal and cheat as a "second job" - that's how they "earn" their living.

The Roman army, the finest major fighting force in history, arrived in 43 AD under Emperor Claudius, which means that given that it was 2000 years ago your "50-odd AD" is pretty much dead-on. So many people think it was with Caesar in 55BC - that was just a reconnaissance raid, and the resistance was such that it took a century to come back.

notscot wrote:Yes, they were Celts, but the Romans called them all "Britons". I often try to imagine a Roman Centurion sitting in the sun on the terrace of his villa in Italy, wondering how to tell his wife they've been posted to Hadrian's Wall. (I know in theory they were not allowed to marry but in practice they did)
