Dead deer in road causes two-car collision

A DEAD deer in the road caused a two vehicle collision on the B3098 in Bratton, Westbury last Friday (January 11) at about 6pm.

The two cars, a Vauxhall Astra and a Peugeot, collided when one stopped suddenly after seeing the deer lying in the road, causing a shunt with the car behind.

The woman driver of the Peugeot was taken to the RUH with minor injuries and the road was cleared by 8.20pm.

This area has many deer around as well as badgers ,they often visit my nans garden in the evening . Sadly though wildlife are often seen deceased in the road but it is nature after all. Nobody was seriously hurt though which is good.

At least, for once, the deer was real. How many accidents (including some time back a bad fatal invloving the inevitable teenaged male driver at night on the Melksham bypass were due to "deers" that ran off!!

Think it's a little unfair to blame the dead deer for this accident - unless it was one of those crash for cash, badger, rabbit and deer gangs

I agree with Not Kate.
The deer may have had some input to the accident which resulted in its own demise but cannot be fully accused of causing the subsequent collision as the headline would have it.🐓

I agree with the two previous comments. The accident wasn't caused by the bereft of life deer. It was caused by the second vehicle driving too close to the vehicle in front.

I don't understand why deer and badgers etc. don't get cleared away. In the UK they lay for weeks and months on the roadside or in the road until they have been eaten or rotten, potentially causing an obstruction in the road. What do we pay road tax for and council tax? On the A36 roundabout approach near Warminster was some kind of badger or fox, it had been swerved around an run over numerous times over the past few days and weeks. It has now moved from on side of the roundabout to the other, just from people running over it again and again. That is just sick! Get someone to remove these when reported. Before they kill someone.
