Bowyers site revised plan is submitted
3:35pm Tuesday 22nd January 2013 in News
THE new-look planning application to redevelop the old Bowyers factory site in Trowbridge has been submitted to Wiltshire Council.
The plans, announced in December, feature a petrol station, a Morrisons supermarket with 510 car parking spaces, two non-food shops, a family pub, two restaurants, two cafes.
They also have a 20,000sq ft gym instead of a cinema that was initially proposed.
Developer Prorsus has identified the application as a revision, or back-up plan, and not a replacement for its original cinema scheme, which was controversially rejected by Wiltshire Council last year.
As part of the application, Prorsus has agreed with the council to delay an appeal into the rejection of it first bid.
Wiltshire and Trowbridge councillor Graham Payne said: “Overall, I’m 100 per cent behind the application and the proposed £46m investment in Trowbridge.
“If we miss the boat here, I predict the town centre will suffer for the next 15 years.”
Wiltshire Council’s target date for assessing the application is February 11.
After the initial Prorsus plan was rejected, residents campaigned strongly in support of the proposal, holding a march in the town and setting up a Facebook group.

The roundabout will only lead to pedestrians crossing at "desire lines" just like they do outside the Gateway shops.

Future Hopes for Trowbridge says...
Their interest & concern in this 46 million pound proposal by Prorsus is to see the gateway to Trowbridge developed, petrol station or cinema included, preferably both!
The first application has not been ditched it goes to appeal in just over 3 weeks time! Wiltshire Council are now willing to talk to Prorsus with the suggestion of dropping the cinema and include the Petrol Station and Gym.
Might it be something to do with the appeal!

Just because the plans have a "Gym" allocated as usage doesn't mean anyone would be willing to buy the lease to run a gym there. As far as I'm aware there is no company (well known or not) waiting in the wings on that one. We'll see what the future brings for that one. We might get a ten pin bowling alley yet.
