WARMINSTER School is celebrating after their production of The Phantom of the Opera received two prestigious National Opera Dramatics Association awards.

The school’s production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical was awarded the 2012 Best Musical Theatre Production in South West England and the District 10 Achievement Award 2012.

The production has also been nominated for three further NODA awards, including the Stage Electrics Award for Technical Achievement 2012, the Haslemere Award for Visual Excellence and the Councillor's Cup for Best Youth Production.

They will have to wait until next month to learn if they have been successful again.

Pupils from the school put on the show in November at The Athenaeum Centre in Warminster, with the five-day run completely sold out.

Director of music Brian Martineau, who produced the show with director Damian Todres, said: “I am incredibly proud that Warminster School can now put Award Winning next to our production of Phantom of the Opera.
“It really was an astounding achievement for the pupils and the school, especially considering that it includes some of the most difficult vocal lines written for musical theatre.

“Many months of hard work, a dedicated production team and hugely talented and committed pupils all contributed to this incredible experience that we will never forget.

“Ben Ecclestone, who played The Phantom, was particularly outstanding for one so young, while Rob Allan, Hannah Connabeer and Marie-Clare Wood all performed with an intensity that many professional shows are missing.”
