Witnesses sought following Trowbridge attack

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a 24-year-old man was assaulted by up to six men in Trowbridge.


The attack happened at around 10pm on Saturday 12 January.

The victim, who was walking alone from Mortimer Street towards Newtown, needed treatment at the Royal United Hospital in Bath for a broken nose and jaw as well as grazing and temporary loss of hearing.

He dropped his mobile phone during the assault and it has not been found.

Detective Constable Tracey Mead said: “This was a vicious attack on a man who was making his way to a friend’s house when he was approached from behind and repeatedly punched in the face. The violence would appear to be unprovoked.

“I would like to hear from anyone who was in the Newtown area late on that Saturday night and who saw what happened. I would also appeal for anyone who knows the identity of any of the men involved in carrying out this attack.”

Poor bloke, it would be much cheaper for the tax payers in these instances where there is no doubt about the people who have done the crime to be allowed to take them one by one and give them the same treatment. After all what do they get in court after the coppers have done their job.

If you're proposing to dispense with the judicial system in certain instances to save the taxpayer money, then you may as well go the whole hog and get rid of the courts, magistrates and judges completely, it'll save the country a fortune. Bring back the biblical eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth system, eh redrum... or Sharia Law as some one would call it.

That's why they are the ACCUSED - until the trial is over and the magistrate(s) or jury have\has deliberated.
It's the investigation, evidence, trial etc that helps the decision making process.
It's actually more important to know that those who have been found guilty are definitely the ones that did it.

It doesn't really require LOTS of people to be walking along Mortimer Street for there to be any witnesses, one or two would do. And even if there's nobody on most days, the night in question is a Saturday when the chances of there being others about will have been greater.
