Cyclists egged on to ride for Edington organ

Cyclists of all ages are being urged to sign up for a sponsored ride across Salisbury Ranges in aid of the Edington Organ Project on Easter Monday.

Fundraisers are working with the Westbury Wheelers cycle club and the Ministry of Defence, with the event offering three routes of different lengths.

All routes start and finish in the car park outside Edington Priory Church, leaving between 10am-noon on April 1, and will cross areas of the plain not normally open to the public.

The project is raising £437,000 for a new organ for Edington Priory Church, home of the Edington Festival, with the fundraising total currently at £407,000, including pledges.

Organiser Anne Curtis said: “This will be a really fun way of working off all those Easter eggs.

“There will be a family 18-mile route, an intermediate route of 28 miles and a full 46 miles.

“Hopefully the weather will be okay, as the ride will go through some beautiful countryside and it would be better in the sun.

“We’re on the last lap of the fundraising for the new organ and we’re hoping for a really good turn-out.”

Entries cost £4 per person or £5 for a family and entry forms are available from The Three Daggers and the Post Office in Edington, Hillworth Stores in Bratton, the village shop in Steeple Ashton and tourist information centres in Warminster, Trowbridge and Westbury.
