Red dust discovery sparks major alert in Trowbridge
7:06pm Tuesday 12th March 2013 in News By Andy Baber
Fire crews from Trowbridge, Westbury, Bradford on Avon and Warminster were mobilised to the White Horse Business Park in Trowbridge today after builders working at a disused factory discovered a suspicious dust.
The factory building, which previously belonged to DTR VMS Ltd, was attended by fire crews at 4.30pm after builders working on site became concerned after discovering a red dust while drilling.
One of the contractors was sprayed with the red powder while using a pneumatic drill through concrete and the fire service decontamination unit checked the man over.
An officer with specialist training in hazardous materials also attended as a precaution, in case the substance was found to be hazardous, but after investigation, it was found to be paint residue and resin.
Police closed the A363 between the Kentucky Fried Chicken roundabout and the roundabout at North Bradley at 4.45pm and, with the operation scaling down, started to open the cordon at 7pm.
