Trowbridge punter who missed £1m picks match
7:00pm Saturday 16th March 2013 in News
The Trowbridge punter who was one result away from winning £1million has swapped his consolation prize for a dream day out to see his beloved Chelsea FC.
Last month Simon Pike, 20, of Cavendish Drive, entered a free national contest run by Coral bookmakers predicting the scores of all eight first legs of the Champions League last 16 matches.
He was the only person in the country in with a shout of winning the cash on the last day of matches with his coupon being ruined by AC Milan beating Barcel-ona 2-0. He’d predicted the Spanish giants would win by the same scoreline.
In recognition of Mr Pike getting the furthest out of the 70,000 entrants, Coral offered him an all-expenses paid trip to Barcelona to watch the return leg at the Nou Camp – but the Chelsea fan had a different prize in mind.
Mr Pike, who works in Westbury, making beds for Comfy Living, said: “I asked if I could swap that prize for a trip to Stamford Bridge to see Chelsea and they’ve sorted it so four of us can go to watch Chelsea against Tottenham on April 14.
“We are going to be in a Millennium Suite at the stadium with food and drinks all included.”
It will be Mr Pike’s first ever trip to see his team play.
Since nearly becoming a millionaire, Mr Pike has become a spokesperson for www.betsofmates.com, giving out tips to punters on his Twitter account.
