Motor enthusiasts will flock to the Castle Combe racetrack, near Chippenham, next week for the largest car, motorbike and automobilia auctions in the south west.

The sale consists of 25 motorcycles, 45 cars and an impressive 823 collectable motor-related items.

One of the main attractions is a French pre-war car Georges Richard automobile.

The model was only manufactured from 1897 to 1902 and the 1901 example going under the hammer, a Rear Entrance Tonneau, is estimated at a staggering £60,000-£70,000.

Two Morgans are also creating pre-sale interest.

One is a 1950 4/4 Open Tourer, which has resided in a barn since the 1960s and is carrying an estimate of £10,000-£12,000, and the other a 1930 three-wheeler Aero Super Sports with a guide price of £23,000-£25,000.

In the automobilia section of the sale is an enamel sign depicting a Castle Combe race meeting from the early 1920’s. It details admission at 5-, 7/6 with a car and bikes at 2/6.

“It is not worth a great deal and we have valued it at £60-£80,” said auctioneer Richard Edmonds.

“It is one of two in the sale and could really appeal to a local collector or racing fan. It is just one of many great lots and we have had a lot of interest already from all over the world.”

Viewing for the automobilia auction will start on the Thursday, with the sale getting under way on the Friday and Saturday, automobilia on the first day and motorcars and motorcycles on the final day.
