Jump in and join 125 year celebrations at Westbury Swimming Pool
2:52pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in News
One of the oldest working public swimming pools in Britain is celebrating 125 years with a series of events in September.
During the weekend of September 7 and 8, people will be able to use Westbury Swimming Pool for the original admission fee of only one penny.
Sessions on offer include family fun swims, adult and lane swimming and an aqua fit taster session.
A public exhibition to commemorate the history of the swimming baths will be held in Laverton Hall from September 2 to September 8 from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
The exhibition will also celebrate the hall, which celebrates its 140th anniversary on September 11.
Visitors to the town will be able to park for free in all Wiltshire Council-run Westbury car parks during the weekend (Warminster Road, High Street and opposite Laverton Hall).
Jonathan Seed, cabinet member for leisure, said: “We are delighted to be working with DC Leisure and Westbury Town Council to commemorate 125 years of Westbury swimming pool.
“We encourage all ages to visit the pool and the exhibition at Laverton Hall to celebrate this wonderful and historic community facility”.
The celebrations are being organised by Wiltshire Council, DC Leisure and Westbury Town Council.
Some swim activities require booking and there is limited availability. Contact Westbury Swimming Pool for more information on 01373 822891 or visit www.westburyswimmingpool.co.uk
