Telecommunication engineer and union secretary Andy Newman has been selected as the Labour candidate for the Chippenham constituency at the next general election.
Mr Newman is branch secretary of the GMB union in Wiltshire, and will stand against Liberal Democrat MP Duncan Hames and Conservative Michelle Donelan at the election, which is scheduled for May 2015.
He said: “The Conservative-led government has prolonged the recession by their failed austerity policies, and unfortunately the Liberal Democrats have supported them.
“I look forwards to offering the voters of Chippenham a real alternative. Only a Labour government can restore Britain to prosperity.”
The Chippenham constituency was created in 2010, and covers the town of Chippenham, as well as Melksham and Bradford on Avon.
