Volunteer Centre Wiltshire reaches out to Warminster groups
6:16pm Monday 9th September 2013 in News
Volunteer Centre Wiltshire is offering support to help groups in Warminster find more volunteers, with a range of services now available to recruit new volunteers.
Registering an organisation with Volunteer Centre Wiltshire is a free way to get volunteering opportunities promoted as quickly as possible.
Volunteer Centre Wiltshire stimulates and encourages local interest in volunteering by promoting and marketing through websites, social media and at local, regional and national events and campaigns.
By listing a volunteering opportunity, the vacancy will be included in their regular promotion of volunteering, posted on the national volunteering database Do-it, and will be discussed with people who get in touch with the centre.
In Wiltshire, an estimated 109,200 people regularly volunteer, each contributing an average of 3.6 hours a week.
During the last year, Volunteer Centre dealt with over 2,300 volunteer enquiries from people who would like to make a difference in their local community with over 3,200 opportunities being passed on to them.
People volunteer for a number of different reasons, ranging from a desire to learn new skills, increasing employment chances, to try new experiences, or to have fun and make a difference in the community.
Simone Lord, manager of Volunteer Centre Wiltshire, said: “Currently we have less than 100 opportunities registered with us in the Warminster area; we need a lot more to attract volunteers in the town.
“We know that with approximately 40 per cent of people in Wiltshire wanting to undertake some sort of volunteering the groups of Warminster could have access to over 6,000 potential volunteers.
“They need to take advantage of this pool of volunteer support and Volunteer Centre Wiltshire can help.”
Part of Wiltshire based charity Develop Enhancing Community Support, Volunteer Centre Wiltshire’s primary function is to match both individuals and groups interested in volunteering with appropriate opportunities in the local community.
