West Wiltshire villagers celebrate new minibus
Villagers had the chance to find out just how easy it is to use their new community minibus when it called in at Edington Parish Hall.
The Three Villages Mini- bus serves the villages around Westbury, including Edington, Erlestoke, Coulston and Bratton, taking residents on day trips and shopping excursions.
After the old minibus became difficult for older villagers to get on board,, a new Peugeot Boxer minibus was bought with the help of funds from Wiltshire Council, the parish councils, Edington Fair and Edington May Ball.
The old bus, which is seven years old, was sold to the 68 Westbury Squadron Air Training Corps cadets.
Chairman of the Three Villages Minibus Joy Fraser said: “All the people at the launch were regular passengers, who go on the shopping trips to Warminster and Salisbury.
“We’ve had five buses over the years and each time we have traded up – the latest bus has wider aisles and two steps and handrails, making it more accessible for our older users.
"It will make life easier as it’s also bigger, which gives us more room for shopping. We are grateful for all the support we have had, as this is an important asset for the villages.
“We’re also pleased the old bus has gone to the air cadets, as it means it will continue to support a local voluntary organisation.”
