Royalty rolls up in bid to shine at Warminster carnival
Warminster Town Park was the setting for the annual Carnival Fun Day, with plenty of potential princes and princesses from local schools vying for titles in the royalty competition.
Sunday’s fun day, which was raising money for this year’s Warminster Carnival – to be held on October 26 – included a bouncy castle, skittles, stalls and dance displays from two groups.
The victorious prince and princess, who will lead the carnival procession, were seven-year-old Sam Nurdin, a pupil at Princecroft Primary School, and seven-year-old Ruby Shepherd, of The Minster School.
Assisting them will be nine-year-old Isobel Jones, of Sutton Veny School, and 11-year-old Katie Cloherty, of Kingdown School.
Winners in the event’s baby competition were Kaleb Pettinger, in the under 12 months category, and Charlie Craig-Collyer, in the under twos section.
Chairman of Warminster Carnival Committee Sandra Major said: “It went really well and we had a much better turnout for the royalty competition than last year, which was great.
“There were lots of different stalls put on by the different carnival committees and everyone seemed to have a really good time. It was also good publicity ahead of the carnival.”
“We have a few more fundraising events coming up before the carnival, including a quiz night and a bingo event.
“Hopefully, people will continue to show good support ahead of the carnival.”
