Holt bewery will unveil beer inspired by Britain’s last steam engine

Drinkers in Wiltshire will be on the right track this weekend, as a local brewery unveils its latest locomotive-themed creation.

The Holt-based Box Steam Brewery has developed a new dark porter ale inspired by the Evening Star, the last stream train ever produced in the UK, which it will launch this weekend.

Described as having “subtle vanilla sweetness, chocolate and coffee aromas”, the new beer will be revealed at the Swindon Railway Festival on Saturday.

The beer will be available by mail order after the Railway Festival from www.boxsteambrewery.co.uk

Eh? 'the Evening Star, the last stream train ever produced in the UK'? Evening Star was the last steam locomotive built by British Rail, in 1960, but surely you have heard of Tornado, the new steam express locomotive which has worked trains across the network in the last three or four years?
Above all, TRAINS ARE NOT STEAM (or 'stream'!). They are what the (diesel/steam/electr
ic) locomotive is there to move about.

Whether the Evening Star was the last st(r)eam locomotive or not, I can't believe that when in service it exuded a mixture of subtle vanilla, chocolate and coffee aromas as the wheels on the track went clickety-clack.

A couple of good 'points' there to keep WT on 'track'.

Wasn't Evening Star buit for (not by) British Rail?
