Warminster man, 43, jailed for underage sex
2:53pm Monday 30th September 2013 in News
A 43-year-old man who took a 15-year-old girl out in his car for sex has been jailed for four years.
Paul Hooper pursued the youngster, sending her messages over social media for months.
And when the child became infatuated with him a few months before her 16th birthday he twice took her out for a drive and they had sex.
But soon after she was wracked with guilt and regretted what she had done with the man, 27 years her senior.
Hooper, of Manor Farm Cottages, Warminster, denied two counts of sexual activity with a child and one of meeting a child after grooming.
He said he thought she was 16, but a jury didn't believe him and was convicted following a trial at Swindon Crown Court last Friday.
Hooper had sex with the child on two occasions within a week at the start of October last year and Judge Douglas Field said: "This legislation is there to protect young girls and although at the time she was consenting to this sexual activity, what you did was wrong."
Hooper will also have to register as a sex offender, be subject of a sexual offences prevention order for life, and is banned from working with children.
