Market towns at centre of Wiltshire's attention
4:00pm Sunday 20th October 2013 in News
A plan to bring greater individuality to the county’s town centres is being devised by Wiltshire Council.
It is considering setting up business improvement districts and is now running a vote in Salisbury, asking firms if they would like business rates to rise by 1.5 per cent so that revenue could go into a pot to pay for projects just for that town.
Councillor Fleur de Rhe-Philipe, the council’s economy cabinet member, said: “This is something which has been successful across the country.
“I think next we will look at Chippenham and maybe Trowbridge after that.”
The deadline for voting in the Salisbury ballot is Wed-nesday, November 13.
