Horsemeat found in Home Bargains product
4:46pm Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
Trowbridge’s Home Bargains store claims that it doesn’t stock the beef product found to contain horsemeat which was pulled by the chain.
Staff from the branch, based at The Spitfire Retail Park, said that they hadn’t sold the Food Hall Sliced Beef in Gravy.
The Food Standards Agency, today revealed, that they found the produce contained between 1 per cent and five per cent equine DNA.
A spokesperson for TJ Morris Ltd, who runs Home Bargains, said: “We are disappointed with these findings. The factory, we and other retailers use for this product, has the highest level of UK food standards accreditation.
“As soon as we were made aware that the Food Standards Agency had found traces of horsemeat DNA in the Food Hall Sliced Beef in Gravy, it was removed from sale immediately.”
