Young and old turned out in force in Westbury on Sunday for the Remembrance Day service, which saw hundreds pay their respects at the war memorial in Edward Street.

Following a service at All Saints’ Church in Church Lane in the morning, Trowbridge Marching Band led a parade along West End and up to the war memorial, where wreaths were laid and a two-minute silence observed.

Mary Kneen, chair of the Westbury Branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “It was absolutely fantastic and the turnout was great. I think there were more people this year than ever before.

“The people of Westbury always amaze me and they always do the town proud. We seem to get more and more people every year and it was another brilliant service this year.

“It’s wonderful to see all the groups, such as the scouts and the air cadets, come together and it really fills you with pride. I find it a very emotional day to be honest.

“When we have events such as these the people of Westbury always turn out in force and support their town and it makes me proud to say I live in the town.”
