An application for a second solar farm in Broughton Gifford has been submitted to Wiltshire Council.

Plans for the 70-acre site on farmland north of Melksham Road were presented at a public exhibition in the village hall in September by developers Hive Energy and Pegasus Environmental.

Oliver Kirkham, environmental planner at Pegasus said: “We’ve taken some time since the consultation to make a few changes and take people’s views into account.

“It’s a great site, with very substantial screening. The reception we had in Broughton Gifford was really positive, and they have all been broadly supportive.”

The farm, which will be in place for 25 years, is expected to generate enough electricity to power 4,500 homes, and will save 6,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

A 22-acre farm has already been approved on nearby Norrington Lane, and Broughton Gifford Parish Council has voiced its support for this second application.
