The Environment Agency has issued one flood alert for the River Kennet, while officers are out checking flood defences and clearing any river blockages.

The agency is getting regular updates from the Met Office and will continuously monitor conditions and river levels. It is also working closely with local authorities and emergency services to respond to any reports of flooding.

Although road conditions are improving, motorists are urged to stay alert to potential dangers and drive responsibly.

Dave Bedlington, Regional Flood & Coastal Risk Manager at the Environment Agency, said: “We encourage everyone at risk of flooding to listen to and co-operate with the emergency services, particularly those in the areas where severe flood warnings have been issued.

“We have teams ready to respond to further risks of flooding throughout the Christmas holidays. Our teams are out in force checking that flood defences and barriers are in good working order and our Flood Ambassadors are on the ground helping people and communities.

“Over the next few days we will continue to work with our partners from the police, councils, and Fire and Rescue Service until the flood risk to people and property has subsided.”

The Environment Agency provides a 24-hour flood warning service. Floodline Warnings Direct is a free service that gives advance warning of flooding by telephone, mobile, fax or pager.
