Holt post office set for move
11:00am Saturday 11th January 2014 in News
The Post Office is inviting people to give their opinions on a proposed move of Holt Post Office to the village convenience store.
The move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network, designed to provide longer opening hours and open plan environments.
The proposed site at Holt Superstore in The Street is just over a kilometre from its current shop in The Common. The opening period would rise to 52.2 hours over seven days.
Customers can share their views during an eight-week public consultation that ends on February 3.
Helen Rabaiotti, 45, lives at the Post Office and has been the postmistress for nine years. She said she would continue to live there.
She said: “I am in full agreement with it. I am ready to leave the network and it means Holt keeps the Post Office.
“Now is the time, while we have been given the opportunity. We can’t anticipate what the future holds.
“It will be the same services it is now. Customers will still be catered for, but parking and access will be easier. It will also be easier for people who use the internet.”
“People have questioned it, since I have put the poster up. The general consensus is they are happy they are keeping the Post Office. I have known them a long time and they were concerned that I am all right and I have not been forced to do it, which is not the case.”
Post Office regional network manager Will Russell said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to residents in Holt and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
