Family rescued from flooding at Staverton

As floodwater continues to wreak havoc across the county firefighters are still being called to rescue drivers of stranded cars.

Yesterday Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a number of flood-related incidents across the county, as drivers continue to ignore safety advice and attempt to pass through flood plains.

At 4.57pm a fire crew from Trowbridge was called to rescue a family stranded at Staverton, where the B3105 has been closed to motorists for several days.

Firefighters wearing drysuits used a specialist water rescue appliance and an inflatable walkway to rescue two adults and two children who had become trapped in a car after trying to drive down the road.

Several drivers have already been stranded at Staverton during the recent flooding, including a 4x4 which tried to drive through on Christmas Eve.

Motorists are again advised to pay attention to road closure notices, and not to drive through flooded roads, especially when they don’t know how deep the water is.
