Pupils at Wylye Valley Primary School held a wassailing celebration last Thursday as part of a practical music and arts-based educational project called The Pippin Project.
The project, which has been taking place in four schools across Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire, is aimed at working with children to create a body of work that celebrates the value of orchards.
Working with around 100 children, artist Scott Farlow and musician Karen Wimhurst have been leading a series of creative and music-based workshops since September last year.
The project included children writing manifestos to ensure that the orchards are sustained, writing songs, drawing pictures and planting orchards on school grounds.
At the end of the project, the schools will celebrate the planting of four new orchards with four performances of The Fruit of Paradise in March. Wylye Valley’s performance will take place on March 16 at Codford Village Hall.
