Police investigating a crash on Hawkeridge Road near Yarnbrook last night are looking to speak to a cyclist who was almost struck by the car.
A silver Peugeot 306 travelling north on the B3097 came off the road shortly after 5pm and hit the wall of Tumblewood Community School at Heywood.
Firefighters from Westbury and Trowbridge worked to free the severely trapped driver, a 32-year-old man from Trowbridge, removing the entire side of the car with hydraulic cutting equipment.
The crews were finished by 5.54pm and the driver was taken to Frenchay Hospital with serious injuries. The road was closed until around 9pm.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or the cyclist who was nearly hit by the car.
Anyone with information can contact PC David Williams of the Serious Collision Investigation Team in Devizes on 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
