Almost £30,000 of funding applications was granted by Westbury Area Board at a meeting, with Matravers School among those which successfully applied.

The board granted the school £5,000 to help create allotments with outdoor sheds and shelters and to purchase tools for an outdoor learning project, which aims to involve the community as well as pupils.

A further £4,500 was approved for Westbury Junior School, where a spiritual garden and outdoor classroom is planned. The school had already raised £3,000 towards the project.

There were also significant grants for Bratton Parish Council, which asked for £5,000 towards the reroofing of its pavilion, and Coulston Village Hall Committee, which was granted the same amount for the renovation of the village hall.

Crosspoint was also granted £3,982 towards a counselling project, which will offer individuals up to 12 sessions with one of two professionally qualified counsellors.

Elsewhere, Westbury Music and Arts Festival, Westbury Cricket Club, Leigh Park Community Centre and John of Gaunt School also had grants approved by the board.
