Young Warminster volunteer Kieran Strong is one of three finalists in the category of Best Young Volunteer at the national vInspired Awards, which take place on March 27 at the Indig02 Arena in London.

The Kingdown School pupil had previously been recognised as the regional winner for the south west in the category for his work running an after-school sports club.

Kieran, 14, who lives in Corsley, creates his own plans for football sessions and other sporting activities for youngsters across the community, volunteering his time to coach different ages and abilities.

He has created sporting festivals that have been attended by hundreds of young people across the region and has also worked with children with special needs.

Kieran, who is in Year 9, said: “It makes me proud to know that what I do makes a difference and having an organisation such as vInspired recognise it is an amazing bonus. It would be fantastic to be the overall winner, but I’m just glad to have got this far.

“I have always been really into sport and know how it can change lives, as it has always enhanced mine – sharing that enthusiasm and seeing the difference it makes is really inspiring.

“I just hope that it encourages other people to volunteer and help make a change in their communities. I’m planning lots more activities with the school’s sports council, including several events for Sports Relief.”

Now in its fifth year, the vInspired National Awards, in association with RBS Early Careers, are the biggest of their kind, celebrating the achievements and dedication of young volunteers and youth workers.

Terry Ryall, vInspired CEO, said: “Kieran has been chosen as a finalist from hundreds of nominees because he has shown amazing dedication and passion for helping his community.”
