Pensioner knocked out in Chippenham pavement fall

Wiltshire Times: Coun Bill Douglas has been campaigning for pavements to be repaired Coun Bill Douglas has been campaigning for pavements to be repaired

A 78-year-old Chippenham woman was knocked unconscious after tripping over a paving stone in Chippenham town centre.

She was badly bruised and shocked after the incident outside Superdrug on High Street at 2.40pm on Sunday.

Town councillors are fuming after highlighting the need for paving to be fixed.

Councillor Bill Douglas said: “She went down on her face and there was blood running over the pavement.

“I went to look on Thursday evening and I stood on the flagstone and it rocked backwards and forwards.

“After Chippenham Town Council complaints last week, Wiltshire Council started work fixing the paving stones in the town on Monday, but it was too late.”

Perhaps Jane Scott and her useless cabinet could explain to everybody which inept outsourced private contractor is responsible for the dangerous condition of our footpaths.
Her tory colleagues are so fond of privatising these services 'because it is cheaper' - yet they always defend the incompetents who are supposed to oversee this work and prevent this happening.
This is not the first example of this, there are many problems with the roads and footways. I do not think that the contractors are providing value for money, all they seem to do is react to negative publicity from councillors or the press. Outsourcing pah! it's a con trick perpetrated by conservative cabinet members who line their pockets whilst providing a crap service.

Are you suggesting that they should not have fixed it because it was too late?
I thought it was never too late to mend.

This would NEVER have happened under a Labour council!

Where there's blame there's a claim, that's what I say.

We should all club together and sue the Chippenham Labour group for not being popular enough.

We should sue them for selecting an idiot that sucks up to the Respect party and George Galloway as ppc.
Unfortunately at the moment the parliamentary labour party is stuffed with public schoolboys and relatives of former MPs. The tories are not alone when it comes to nepotism.
