This summer’s exam period may feel like a long way off, but GCSE students in Melksham have had an early head-start after their mock exams this week.

To get the students prepared for the real thing, Melksham Oak Community School ran a fortnight of formal revision sessions for its Year 11 pupils, which were supported by work in lessons and a structured revision programme.

Assistant headteacher Aidan Blowers said: “Our aim has been to provide an experience which is as close the real thing as we can get.

“For those students who work hard and are successful, this experience should provide them with the confidence and the platform to push on their Summer GCSE exams and do really well.

“For those who have not done as well as they would have hoped, this provides them with an invaluable experience, and hopefully will strengthen their resolve to improve with the guidance and support of our school and their families.

“We are extremely proud of our Year 11s and the strong work ethic that they have exhibited.

“It is no coincidence that our results have built year on year for the past three years and we hope that this could be the springboard to improve again as we target our ambition to become a 'great school'."
