Age UK Wiltshire has joined forces with chemist’s shops to offer advice on applying for benefits for older people.

The Devizes-based charity has expanded its campaign, Let’s Talk Money, which aims to reduce pensioner poverty by linking up with pharmacies to spread the word.

The objective is to increase the number of over-65s claiming their entitlements, especially Attendance Allowance, a non-means-tested benefit to help people with a long-term illness or disability.

In the coming months, 30 pharmacies will insert more than 60,000 Age UK Wiltshire leaflets into the shop bags of older customers.

John Truss, Age UK Wiltshire’s information and advice manager, said: “Hope- fully, this will encourage the older population to come and have a chat with our friendly information and advice advisers, to make sure they are getting everything they are entitled to.

"We know people listen to health professionals.”
