Residents in Warminster are celebrating their victory over developers after Wiltshire Council refused planning permission for 60 homes near Dorothy Walk.

Planning officers have now confirmed the refusal of planning permission, stating that it would have a “detrimental urbanising effect on this sensitive site located outside of the limits of development”.

Katrina Stevens, of Dorothy Walk, said: “The residents were extremely pleased at this news.

“The developers may appeal, but support is growing against this development and the campaign will continue if necessary.”

Concerns raised by residents about flooding were noted by the planning officers, with the flood risk assessment submitted by Redrow found to have “substantive irregularities”.

Warminster West Cllr Pip Ridout said: “I was happy to hear that the application had been turned down as there were many valid planning reasons why it should be.

“The residents had worked with me all along in a very calm but determined way to show that there were anomalies in the plans and that the Environment Agency had agreed that the flooding and drainage problems had not been addressed.”

The plans, which included a range of properties from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses at land off Bath Road and Church Street, were submitted to Wiltshire Council by Redrow Homes South West.

Residents condemned the plans during an exhibition last year, before handing in a petition with 643 signatures opposed to the development to a Warminster Town Council planning advisory committee meeting.

The committee subsequently backed the residents and campaign group, Save Dorothy Walk, and voted unanimously for refusal of the plans.
