A facebook group set up by two Melksham mums to help others in need has gone from strength to strength, and could soon be a registered charity.

Fay Yandell and Claire Parfitt set up the Melk-sham and Area Helping our Own page at the start of the year, and have been amazed at the response.

Mum-of-three Ms Yandell said: “It has gone really fast, but really well.

“We are currently having steering group meetings with Sarah Cardy from Wiltshire Citizens’ Advice and Sam Richards from Selwood Housing, who have been so helpful.”

The group collects donated clothing, furniture and other items, which are distributed to local families in need.

When they started they were working out of Ms Yandell’s garage, but have now relocated to a new unit in Wessex Close.

She said: “Selwood Housing has given us a garage to use for extra storage, which is amazing.”

The pair are in the process of registering as the fledgling charity’s directors, and are having regular meetings with local organisations.

Ms Yandell said: “We’re finding it harder than we thought with our children and everything, and really we would like some help doing fundraising events so we can pay for leaflets and things like that.

“We would love to hear from people who have organised things before and want to get involved.”
