Kingdown School pupil Kieran Strong was named winner of the Best Young Volunteer category at the star studded vInspired National Awards 2014 in London on Thursday.

Warminster volunteer Kieran, 14, picked up the award after being selected from hundreds of nominations across the country for his work running an after-school sports club.

The event included performances from Pixie Lott, Neon Jungle and Elyar Fox, along with appearances by celebrities including Louis Spence, Misha B, Delilah, Harry Derbridge and Ferne McCann.

Kieran was chosen over two others in his category for his outstanding contribution to his community. Through the Football Futures programme, he runs after-school sports clubs for young people of different ages and abilities, including for those with special needs.

Kieran said: “I have always been really into sport and know how it can change lives, as it has always enhanced mine - sharing that enthusiasm and seeing the difference it makes is really inspiring.

“It was absolutely amazing to hear my name called out as a winner of the Best Young Volunteer category.”

In association with RBS Early Careers, the annual vInspired National Awards 2014 is the biggest event of its kind and was held last night to celebrate the achievements and dedication of young volunteers and youth workers.

The awards are aimed at challenging negative attitudes towards young people by highlighting the creativity, motivation and generosity of some of the most inspiring young volunteers in the country.
