Bradford on Avon-based search engine marketing and website design company, Varn Media, has big plans to expand in response to requests from businesses for help with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

While many businesses in Wiltshire remain cautious with investment in growth, despite indications that the UK economy shows signs of recovering from the recession, Varn Media is expanding its team, offices and client base – mostly because of a trend among businesses wanting to improve their SEO. SEO is a term the sums up the methods used to make a website appear more in online searches.

Tom Vaughton, director of Varn Media, said the number of enquiries and calls for SEO expertise had rocketed over the past two months.

He said: “We have calls from business owners who have invested in SEO and simply want us to double-check that the company they employed is doing their job correctly.

“We have realised we need to make plans for expansion to manage the growth in business which means we are advertising new positions such as in administration, digital marketing and project management.

“I have rented out the adjoining office space to our present office in preparation for this anticipated growth.”

Varn Media, which has offices in The Old Brewery, Newtown in Bradford on Avon, has been around since 2010 and was originally a start-up run by Mr Vaughton on his own.

Now three and a half years old, it is a thriving SME with clients which include well-known brands such as Cow & Gate and SSE and a wide range of businesses in both the local area and around the country.

“It’s accepted that every business has to have a website now – but more than that, companies need their website to create additional revenue or enquiries and help with growth rather than just being ‘something you have to have.

“The nature of how that is done is changing all the time, so we are seeing this spike in interest from businesses wanting help in getting their website to perform better on the search engines and as a source of business.

“We are very busy now and we are enjoying the idea of growing bigger and being an active employer in the region.”
