The Bradfordians Dramatic Society will be treading the boards in its new location of St Margaret’s Hall when it opens next month after a full refurbishment.

The group, which has origins dating as far back as 1931, have been based at St Laurence School since moving from the hall 18 years ago.

Chairman Sue Bolden said: “St Margaret’s Hall is more central and it is nice to be back in the heart of the town.

“The Bradfordians have contributed a great deal of finance and expertise into the lighting set up for the hall and thank members Phil Courage, Kevin Lawrence and Rob Hearn for the hours of research and knowledge they have given to make sure it is ideal for the venue.

“It is going to be fantastic and we are really looking forward to getting our lighting in and for the audiences to be able to use the new retractable seating. We hope it will be a great experience for them.”

St Margaret’s Hall will open on May 1 with the budget standing at £980,273. The original budget was £790,000 when work started in June and the project was expected to be finished in December 2013, but was hit by a series of delays.

The Christmas Eve floods submerged St Margaret’s Car Park, causing water to seep into the hall but there was no lasting damage.

In August, large voids, thought to be pits from the hall’s former use as a dye house, were found under the floorboards. This resulted in the floor being taking up to fill in the voids.

Around the same time it was revealed the roof had to be re-pitched with timber because the metal angle battens had corroded.

The Bradfordians’ first production in the hall, the comedy Chorus of Disapproval, will be from November 19-22 and tickets will be on sale through the Wiltshire Music Centre later in the year.
