Trowbridge Town Council is supporting Trowbridge in Bloom to celebrate the 50th anniversary of RHS Britain in Bloom this year by planting sunflowers in Poet’s Corner behind the Civic Centre.

Neighbourhoods officer Nick Alford will be planting up 50 Giraffe sunflowers in May to celebrate 50 years of the gardening campaign.

Growing for Gold is the theme of RHS Britain in Bloom 2014 and the Royal Horticultural Society is providing half a million pollinator-friendly sunflower seeds. The new Giraffe sunflowers have been offered free by Sutton Seeds.

Mr Allford said: “We are hoping to create a wall of golden giant sunflowers to celebrate this landmark year, and Poet’s Corner lends itself naturally to this campaign, with its walled exterior.”
